Thais kicked out of Nehru Cup

NEW DELHI (Reuters) - India have thrown Thailand out of this month's six-nation Nehru Cup tournament in New Delhi for planning to send a junior side despite initially promising to send the national team.

"They confirmed entry but when we checked the players' list we found it was an under-19 side," Indian football federation secretary Alberto Colaco told a news conference.

"We told them we cannot accept it but they did not respond favourably, so we scratched them."
Palestine will replace Thailand and join Syria, Lebanon, Sri Lanka, Kyrgyzstan and holders India for the Aug. 19 to 31 event, which is part of the home team's build-up for the 2011 Asian Cup.

Comments:
good to see India having some dignity. In Nepal a 3rd division Thai club came pretending to be the Thai National Team - similar to the Zimbabwe episode in Malaysia. The Nepal FA was actually in on it as they wanted to beat a "marquee" team. Shockingly the media played along.

interesting

do you know what the team was an when it happened?

I think that must have been JW Glass (?) who played in the Nepal Prime Ministers Cup, along with Nepal Red and Nepal Blue and a few other club sides from SAFF region.

I do remember seeing a website (some blog, not official source) that stated the JW Club rather than the national team.

that rings a bell df
